n case you missed your copy from last spring (if you're an
established band family) or the one I sent all the rookie families in
May, I thought you might like an updated schedule for Fundraising for
the 2007-2008 Band year.

I hope you're all earning steadily on your Fair Share accounts with
the grocery cards. If not, and you'd like to participate, please
contact Kaye Poole at eatsquid@juno.com and she'll get you set up.

We're about halfway through our season working with the Durham Bulls
Concession Stands. Everyone who worked in April and May has seen the
benefit to their Fair Share accounts already. So far, we've worked
six of our nine games in June. June workers will receive credit in
July when we know earnings for all games worked in June.

Three more ways to earn your Fair Share commitment will start or occur
in August, Indian River Citrus, our traditional Saturday before school
starts Car Wash, and, hopefully, Entertainment Book sales.

Look for information to come home the beginning of the first week of
on-site band camp for the fruit sales. If you don't see a packet of
information, call (846-6759) or email (lcondreay@nc.rr.com) and harass
your student as the information should come home with Marching Band
students the first day of on-site Band Camp and the first week of
school for band class only students. We start this early so students
can get a head start on their fruit sales. Fruit is a popular item.
Historically, it has been either the largest or second largest
fundraiser with a broader participation by band families and some
students earning their entire Fair Share with this fundraiser. We
urge you to get out and sell the fruit early, before school starts,
and other schools start their sales! You can sell it even easier if
you're the first one on your block with your fruit packet!

We're getting ready for our first Silent Auction at the Marching Band
banquet and performance for parents on Fri., Aug. 24th. Remember,
this is to help offset transportation costs for the band to repay the
General Fund so we don't see this come home to Fair Share commitments
in the future. Look for an advance list of all items for the auction
to share with family and friends. Although only band families will be
at the actual auction, you can come set up to bid on a friend's
behalf. We have an amazing collection of goodies so far with donations
from all kinds of places. 2 nights of boarding for a pet at a local
animal hospital with bath before pickup.
Loads of area restaurants donated gift certificates to use for meals -- a partial list: Irregardless, Cafe Luna, Brigg's, Seaboard Cafe,
California Pizza Kitchen, CiCi's, 2nd Empire, Dos Taquitos, Wildflour
Pizza, Squidd's, Spanky's, 411 West, Azitra's, Golden Corral, Cozumel,
Michael Dean's, 518 West, NeoChina in Cary, Bogart's, Capital City
Chop House, Red, Hot, & Blue, Parizades, Cheesecake Factory, Johnny
Carino's, Milton's, Rey's, IHOP, and on and on. From 2 restaurants, we
have donations of a day in the kitchen cooking with their chefs : 18
Seaboard in Raleigh and Four Square in Durham -- Imagine learning to
prepare and tasting all those wonderful meals! We have donations of
oil changes, patio decorating, cookie arrangements, and a gift
certificate from Edible Art. We have gift certificates from area
nurseries. We have items in another range altogether (values >$500
each) : a 2 night weekend at a Marriott in Charleston, SC, a
membership at an exclusive club in downt
own Raleigh (the Cardinal Club), and more. Plan now! If you think
you're interested in something here or you have family/friends in the
area who might be, plan your and their budget(s) accordingly and give
them a heads up. Don't worry though, in the event of a tie between a
band family and a bid on behalf of an outsider at the auction, the
band family takes it home!

Enough about the auction, in addition, we'll have our traditional
start the year off with a clean car, Car Wash, on Aug. 25th at Sam's.
Drew Rowe will be organizing this again (drewrowe@mindspring.com).
Look for advance tickets to sell when band camp starts and plan to
help out now. This is a popular event for students.

The Entertainment Book sales should start just after school starts.
We're finalizing the schedule now. Get ready.

Also, note, here's the fundraising schedule I put out earlier for the
whole year. Print and post this email on the refrigerator or save it
somewhere if you want to participate in any of these and not just
write a check for your fair share.
