  • Marching band student meetings continue each Monday during 5th period lunch.  Students are listening to shows, sharing ideas and discussing arrangement of next year’s show.  Mr. Hunter is considering whether to use a pre-existing show or a custom arranged show.  Students were asked to review show options and come to the next meeting with three recommendations.
  • Leadership candidate training, open to all students, will be held on Monday, January 25 (teacher workday) with auditions the following Monday, February 1.  Mr. Jenner will assist with the selection process.
  • Search for guard instructor continues.  The initial candidate declined the position.
  • All-District auditions were held this month.  Thirteen of our students will participate in the clinic held the first week in February.
  • Students are preparing for concert festival to be held on Friday, March 26.

Please note that this is the last day of school before spring break.  All students are expected to be in attendance unless previous arrangements were made with Mr. Hunter.  Symphonic Band students should finish in the afternoon; however, Wind Ensemble students will not finish until the evening.  Please take this into consideration when arranging travel departure times for break.

Official notification will be sent by Mr. Hunter about Symphonic Band rehearsals for festival to be held after school from 2:30 – 4:30 on Mondays in March.

  • Wind Ensemble will perform at Enloe’s Senior Awards Night and not at commencement this year.  Rehearsals will not be necessary for this program scheduled for Monday, May 17.

  • Donut sales ongoing with over $100 earned each Friday with anticipated additional $2,000 by the end of the year.
  • A spring car wash will be scheduled, possibly in late April.  Brent will reserve a date now, and students will organize this fundraiser.

  • Old Business: None

  • New Business:
  • Bylaws review:  Lorraine Johnson has agreed to chair a committee to review the Enloe Band Booster bylaws.  It has been more than three years since the last review.  She will discuss at next month’s meeting.
  • Fair Share/Fundraising 2010-2011:  It is important that the boosters make a decision in February regarding next year’s individual and general fair share.   Under consideration is the need to increase our general funds for next year.  If fair share payments are not increased, it is possible that some of the fundraisers will have a percentage going directly to the general fund.  All interested parents are requested to come to the next meeting prepared to share your views, discuss options, and vote on this important matter.  This will be your chance to have your voice heard and vote for your preferences.
  • Durham Bulls:  Dan Johnson will be coordinating the Durham Bulls concessions this year and indicated that we must commit to the Bulls within the next 30 days.  Most dates are on Friday, Saturday or Sunday nights with occasional Thursdays or Monday holidays.  Dan will work with the Bulls to get dates confirmed again for this year.  More information will follow.  Some slots will be left unfilled for incoming freshman families that are interested in participating.
  • Incoming Freshman Information Sessions:  It is extremely important that incoming freshman and their families be introduced to the band programs early.  General information will be provided as well as fair share, volunteer opportunities, and fundraising options available to defray the cost of band expenses.  This must be done in the spring in order for both the parents and students to become familiar with the program.  This will give them a chance to participate and get involved early on.   It is imperative incoming freshman be introduced to the Bulls for this summer.  This provides a great opportunity for new members to meet and connect with other band families.  Mary Ann will work with Mr. Hunter to establish a workable date to share this information with new families.

Mr. Rice agreed to have our information available on the school website with a possible link to information or the band website.  This could be shared at the Enloe parent information sessions scheduled for accepted magnet students in the spring.  Mr. Hunter also suggested the boosters put an informational insert in each of the band concert programs held throughout the year.  This will provide high visibility and will reach most families.

  • Nominating Committee: A committee will be established for nominations to next year’s board.  If you are interested in serving on this committee, please contact Mary Ann Williams, President, or any board member.

The meeting was adjourned at 8:20 p.m.

Next month’s meeting date: Thursday, February 11, 2010
