I. Minutes of the
June 12, 2008 meeting – A request was made by Mary Grant to change last month’s minutes to indicate that we have gotten a very good response from the parents regarding the silent auction. A motion was made by Sara Morrison-Rowe, seconded by MaryAnn Williams with a unanimous vote to approve the minutes with the change noted.
Items that need to be added to the calendar for the year should be sent to David Still as soon as possible. The Enloe Band Boosters will continue to meet on the 2nd Thursday of the month. Any conflicts will be addressed as needed.
II. Operations Report – No report for this month.
III. Treasurer’s Report – No report this month per Jay Johnson.
IV. Ways and Means – Reported by Rhonda Connor for Jim Connor. To date, $5,000. worth of items have been donated for the Silent Auction with items still being collected. Please pass the word along to invite any family or friends to attend the auction scheduled for August 22. A listing of the items available for bid will be posted on the Enloe Band Yahoo group site the week of band camp or one week after. Grocery card sales and Durham Bulls concessions continue to do well. Fruit and Entertainment Book sales will begin right after camp.
Information regarding the upcoming season was shared with the group. Drum line pit camp will be held next week, Wednesday through Friday. Alice Zuber has volunteered to help out with this. Lorraine Johnson will serve as the lead coordinator for after school rehearsals on Thursdays. MaryAnn Williams has volunteered to serve as the Tuesday after school lead. Other parents are still needed to assist with these rehearsals. Adventure Landing lock-in is being planned by Katrina Connor and tentatively planned for Friday, September 5th (second football game).
V. Away Band
Camp
Chaperone Information - Mr. Hunter appreciates the parent volunteers for giving their personal time to chaperone at band camp this year, our 4th year! This is a tremendous help and makes his job a lot easier. While volunteering at camp is a lot of fun, it is also an important responsibility. Parent volunteers enable him to focus on the teaching component while chaperones handle everything else outside of instructional rehearsals. Chaperones are asked to supervise the students by being available on the sidelines without interfering with rehearsals and remaining just outside of sectional rehearsal rooms. If you are needed, the instructors will contact you by walkie-talkie.
Rhonda and
Lorraine request that all Marching band forms be returned as soon as possible. A copy of each student’s insurance card should be submitted at check in on Saturday, August 2, prior to departure. Personal medical forms for parent chaperones will also need to be completed.
The 2008 Marching Band consists of 61 boys, 28 girls, and six guard members. In order to provide a safe, fun and productive camp, it is asked that all chaperones adhere to their responsibilities and rules. This year, a new system will be used to document any issues that arise during your supervised time of the students. Incident forms should be completed and turned in to
Lorraine or Rhonda. Discipline issues on the field will be addressed by leadership who report to Mr. Hunter. It is the responsibility of the chaperones to be available, as needed to facilitate rehearsals. This would include field rehearsals and sectionals as needed, during meals, after hours supervision, and adherence to curfew. It is also the responsibility of the chaperone to be sure students assigned to them are present at all meals. Nutrition and hydration are very important during this physically demanding week.
A motion was made to adjourn the meeting by Lynn Condreay, seconded by Kaye Poole. The meeting was adjourned at 8:13 p.m.
Next meeting date is scheduled for Thursday, August 14th at 7:00 pm.
Respectfully submitted,
Joanne Schmitt
