The meeting was called to order at 7:00 pm. by President, Mary Ann Williams
- Minutes of the October, 2009 meeting – The minutes of the October, 2009 meeting were reviewed. A motion to approve minutes as written was made by Greg Turner, seconded by Bill Schmitt.
- Band Director’s Report – Robert Hunter
- Veteran's parade went well despite poor crowd attendance. This was the first year since 2001 that we have not performed in concert and held the music commissioning project. Classroom time spent preparing for this performance when approximately 40% of those in class do not participate is one consideration. Commissioned works have not received as favorable a response following the patriotic music.
- The Enloe Arts Open House is scheduled for Monday, November 16. Jazz groups will play in lobby as well as a jazz trio in auditorium. Mr. Hunter encouraged Wind Ensemble members to form ensembles to perform at opportunities like this as well as the upcoming Barnes & Noble fundraiser in December. A signup sheet for Barnes & Noble is posted on the band room door.
- First Raleigh Christmas parade rehearsal was held this week with one more scheduled for next Thursday, November 19. Students are well prepared and sound good for the parade.
- Marching band planning is underway for next year. Thoughts and show ideas are being discussed now. All students are welcome to join Mr. Hunter on Mondays during lunch for planning and suggestions for next year’s program. Music and drill will be written over the winter. Leadership selection will take place soon and hopefully prior to the winter break. Evaluation forms will be used in the selection process this year. Peer feedback on musical ability, attitude, and leadership capabilities within each section will be considered for leadership criteria.
- A strong candidate for next year’s guard instructor was interviewed recently. She was highly recommended and provided positive plans and ideas to enhance marching band performances. Mr. Hunter is awaiting an acceptance. Mr. Hunter also spoke to Todd Harris who was with Enloe and initially started the spirit bead ceremony 20 or so years ago. He was amazed at how the ceremony has evolved and is now ritual which is much more meaningful.
- Music library organization was undertaken by Mr. Jenner during the parade. Denise Scholl assisted after the parade and students have also been very helpful in continuing on this project spending part of their lunch filing more music! Thanks to all of you for organizing the music library. It looks the best it has in years!
- Treasurer’s Report – Jay Johnson
- A detailed report was sent via Yahoo Groups on November 8. EBB doing good financially.
- The decision on the necessity of the final fair share payment will be determined at the January meeting. At the present time, we are 1/3 of the way to our general fundraising goal.
- Operations Report – Mary Grant
- A few people are scheduled for the Enloe Arts Open House to man a table to answer general questions about the band program. Mary Ann Williams is still requesting general band pictures (other than MB) to display. David Hockenberger will send photos from last year’s concert DVD.
- Marching Band Awards Banquet will be held following parade on November 21. Cooper’s Barbeque will provide the banquet meal again this year. Dinner order forms were sent out on email and Mr. Hunter also distributed copies after the Veteran’s Day parade. All orders must be received by Joyce Anne Porter no later than Monday, November 16th. Tickets will not be sold at the door.
- Ways and Means
- Holiday tree sale details were unavailable. Mary Ann will check with Brent Carter to determine this information. Greg Turner has arranged the insurance to cover this event.
- Fruit delivery and pick up will be Saturday, December 5. Anabella George will send out a reminder e-mail as the date gets closer. Mr. Hunter will also remind students who ordered fruit they must be at Enloe that morning to help unload the truck in order to pick up orders. Individual fair share earnings total around $7,000. Any profit on extra fruit ordered for sale will go to the general fund.
- Barbara Lee reports donuts sales still going strong with 55 dozen sold every week. There is some concern of the school doors remaining locked for a longer period in the morning. Bus students are held on the bus until doors are opened. We continue to sell out!
- Jay Johnson reported on the status of the Barnes & Noble book fair to be held on December 11 and 12. Jazz group will cover the Friday evening slot. We still need band groups to sign up for Saturday. It is expected that students will perform for a few hours each day. Schedule to be determined after sign up is complete. This will be a fun and profitable event!
- Old Business:
- Ramona Jenner recently attended the Band Directors conference and shared information with the boosters on four companies willing to come out and share information on their products. One favorite was Classic Cookie which she has found to be a profitable program with a good product. Thanks Ramona for obtaining this information for us!
- New Business:
- The sale of a marching band season DVD was discussed. Having someone internally produce this will keep the costs down significantly. David Hockenberger has generously agreed to make the DVDs. These will be available to order at the banquet on November 21. A motion was made by Greg Turner to have the DVD recordings of the season available for sale, at a cost of $10.00 each. The motion was seconded by Rhonda Connor with all members present in favor. The DVD sale will be announced at the banquet with preorders taken that day.
- It was noted that we have saved a considerable amount of money from general fund on truck rental costs due to the purchase of our own equipment trailer. Greg will look into purchasing a tarp for coverage in bad weather and to cover instruments and empty cases while band performs. Greg also plans to take the Gator to the shop in the next few weeks for necessary service.
The meeting was adjourned at 8:05 pm.
